Paid childcare leave, fertility, and female labor supply in South Korea

We consider the effects of a paid childcare leave subsidy on maternal behavior in South Korea using difference-in-difference design and fertility survey with information conception, contraception, labor supply arrangements. Childcare subsidies increased conception decreased contraception—an important mechanism for manipulating fertility. The arc elasticities responses contraception to are 0.65 −0.10, respectively. However, we do not find systematic employment In country lowest total rate world that often performs middling rankings gender inequality, conclude working women confers some positive benefits.
